My parody, “Having Made a Name for Oneself”, was recorded and produced with collaboration with my partner Kayla Bistrain. The song is a parody of Kanye West’s controversial song Famous. The concept for the parody was translation. We threw the censored lyrics of Famous into google translate over a dozen times in a dozen languages and a dozen alphabets. Finally we translated it back into English and got our final lyrics. This gave the lyrics an odd, and sometimes very literal wording, making it a parody of the original. Because of this, the lyrics and verses come off very awkward, and rushed or slowed at certain times depending on the translation.
I am most proud of the overall production value, as we produced the entire song. This includes the ad libs and even the very strange outro. This gives it a very complete feeling. I really enjoyed learning about music production, even at the basic level we did. It is something I have always been interested in, so finally getting to get some hands-on experience was very fun. I still love film and visual art production but audio production is still very fun. I also greatly expanded my knowledge and appreciation for audio production. Overall, this has been my favorite digital media project of the year.
